Intra-cavity harmonic generation in diode-pumped Q-switched Nd:YAG rod lasers is a preferred architecture to generate high output power at 532nm and 355nm in multimode operation. We have developed a side-pumped, dual rod Nd:YAG laser with intra-cavity second harmonic generation using Type II LBO in a double-pass configuration. A maximum 532nm output power of 420 W was achieved at 10 kHz with an M^2 of about 24. The pulse duration was 70 ns with a pulse energy stability of less than 0.7% rms. By…

    FAQs

    What is Q-switched Nd:YAG laser? ›

When patients visit us to remove birthmarks, hyperpigmentation and tattoos, California Skin Institute providers may suggest the use of the Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser. This laser was designed to target various types of pigment in the skin, and can achieve significant lightening of pigmented lesions and tattoos.

What is the output power of a YAG laser? ›

YAG lasers, along with CO2 and fiber, are popular for processing industrial applications and materials. Diode-pumped lasers are excited through diode lasers with an 808nm wavelength. These lasers typically have an output power of 100 watts on average.

What is the wavelength of Q-switched YAG laser? ›

The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm quickly removes black ink, as well as other colors less efficiently; pigmentary changes are much less frequent, correlating with its lower absorption by melanin. The 532-nm wavelength treats red ink effectively, but also leads to temporary hypopigmentation.

Is Q switch laser better than CO2 laser? ›

Pico Laser is a great option for those with mild to moderate skin concerns, while Q-Switched Laser is ideal for those with more severe skin issues. CO2 Laser is best for those with more severe skin problems, such as deep wrinkles or scars.

    Is Q-switched Nd:YAG laser good? ›

To summarise, Picosecond Laser may be a better option for those looking for faster and more precise results, while Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser is still an effective choice for tattoo removal and a wider range of pigmentation applications.

Does Q-switch laser really work? ›

The energy emitted by a Q-switched laser is concentrated into ultra-powerful pulses that last just a billionth of a second each. Because the energy's contact with the skin is less than other lasers, Q-switched lasers are known for preserving surrounding tissue and a reduced risk of unwanted side effects.

How many watts is a strong laser? ›

For laser cutting or for very high speed applications, we recommend a laser power of more than 80 watts. In this article we will try to explain the topic of “Optimal laser power” as well as possible. As a general rule, we recommend a personal consultation to determine the optimum laser power for you.

How to calculate laser power? ›

To calculate the peak power, simply divide the pulse energy (in joules) by the pulse duration (in seconds). For example, 1 mJ pulse with a pulse duration of 100 ns has a peak power of at least 10,000 watts.

Does yag laser increase eye pressure? ›

In one reported case,4 IOP increased to 60 mm Hg by 24 hours after Nd:YAG capsulotomy, despite the use of apraclonidine before and after treatment and a normal IOP reading 2 hours after the procedure. Reducing total laser energy levels, usually to less than 80 mJ, has been associated with a lower risk of IOP rise.

What is the frequency of Q-switched laser? ›

In most cases, Q-switched lasers generate regular pulse trains via repetitive Q switching. The pulse repetition rate is typically in the range from 1–100 kHz, sometimes higher.

What is Q-switched laser technology? ›

Q-switch lasers reduce hyperpigmentation in a similar way that they do tattoos. The Q-switch laser directs light energy into the epidermis, shattering excess pigmentation. The excess melanin is then absorbed by the lymphatic system and filtered from the body.

What is Q-switched laser devices? ›

Q-Switched Lasers use very short but high-energy pulses, typically only a nano-second long. This creates a photomechanical effect on the skin. Q-Switched Lasers are perfect for treating tattoos and pigmentation.

What is better than Q switch laser? ›

Pico Laser is a revolutionary advancement in laser technology that delivers ultra-short bursts of energy in picoseconds, making it significantly faster than Q-Switched Laser. This rapid energy delivery breaks down pigmented cells into smaller particles, which are then naturally eliminated by the body's immune system.

How long do Q switch laser results last? ›

Patients can notice up to 75 to 90 percent reduction in their spots and pigmentation! Moreover, the results last for years if the skin is properly looked after.

What is the difference between CO2 laser and ND YAG laser? ›

In addition to cutting, Nd-YAG supports boring and welding applications. CO2 and Nd laser cutting aren't the same. The former uses CO2 gas, whereas the latter uses neodymium. As a result, they have different characteristics when used to cut or otherwise physically manipulate workpieces.

    What is a Q-Switch laser? ›

Q-switch lasers use a "Q-switched" technique to emit tight pulses of concentrated photons (light energy). The laser beam is powerful enough to penetrate deep into the skin yet gentle enough to treat the face. The FDA considers the Q-switch laser safe and effective for its intended uses.

What is Nd:YAG laser used for? ›

Nd:YAG lasers are used in manufacturing for engraving, etching, or marking a variety of metals and plastics, or for metal surface enhancement processes like laser peening. They are extensively used in manufacturing for cutting and welding steel, semiconductors and various alloys.

What is Q-Switch laser concept? ›

Q-switched lasers are often used in applications which demand high laser intensities in nanosecond pulses, such as metal cutting or pulsed holography. Nonlinear optics often takes advantage of the high peak powers of these lasers, offering applications such as 3D optical data storage and 3D microfabrication.

How long does Q-Switch laser treatment last? ›

Patients can notice up to 75 to 90 percent reduction in their spots and pigmentation! Moreover, the results last for years if the skin is properly looked after.
