Chocolate Peppermint Bread Recipe

Two of my favorite things mixed in one bread makes for an awesome dessert bread, Chocolate and peppermint. This is an easy Christmas bread that can be served for dessert or breakfast.

There are always candy canes around the house so whether you want to crush your own or buy them already crushed is totally up to you. This rich Chocolate Peppermint Bread is perfect for the holiday with chocolate ganache topped with crushed candy canes.

Chocolate Peppermint Loaf Ingredients

  • Unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Fat free sour cream
  • Flour
  • Hershey cocoa powder
  • Baking powder
  • Kosher salt
  • Hershey semi sweet chocolate chips

Chocolate Ganache

  • Hershey semi sweet chocolate chips
  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Peppermint extract
  • Crushed candy canes

How to Make Peppermint Chocolate Bread

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a loaf panChocolate Peppermint Bread Recipe (7) with pam spray and set aside.

Add in the eggs and sour cream and mix until combined.

Gradually add in the dry ingredients and continue to mix on low speed until combined.

Mix in the chocolate chips, crushed candy canes and peppermint extract.

Batter will be thick so don't worry!

Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 55 minutes. You don't have to line the pan with parchment paperChocolate Peppermint Bread Recipe (15) like I did. That's just a personal preference.

10 minutes before the 30 minutes is up, make the chocolate ganache.

Using a small potChocolate Peppermint Bread Recipe (19), heat up the heavy whipping cream until it starts to boil.

Once slightly boiling, pour heavy whipping cream over chocolate chips and mix using a whisk until smooth.

  • Hershey semi sweet chocolate chips½ C
  • Peppermint extract1 teaspoon
  • Crushed candy canes ½ C

  • Hershey semi sweet chocolate chips1 ⅓ C
  • Heavy whipping cream½ C
  • Peppermint extract½ teaspoon
  • 1 C crushed candy canes
